ITW Shippers Dunnage Bags are AAR verified according to the Product Performance Profile for Pneumatic Dunnage
Loads shipped by rail car are typically very heavy (up to 205,000 lbs) and are exposed to extreme and repetitive movements. This combination of weight and extreme movement makes it imperative to brace loads efficiently.
At ITW Shippers our dunnage air bags are often used on rail cars to provide lengthwise bracing. Lengthwise bracing with our dunnage bags helps protect loads shipped inside railcars by compacting and re-positioning lading toward end walls, which helps eliminate length-wise voids. The air bags also work to cushion loads upon impact by absorbing shock. Air bags also enlarge to fill voids that occur when cargo settles.
Effective load securement can also be achieved by using crosswise bracing. By positioning dunnage air bags between lengthwise rows of lading in a railcar, crosswise voids are filled and product is held firmly against the sidewalls. Air bags can fill lateral voids up to 12" wide. Air bags are used to brace palletized, unitized, slip-sheeted or loose-stacked products in railcars.
ITW Shippers air bags meet AAR (Association of American Railroad) specifications for proper and safe loading of many railcar shipments. When shipping by railcar it is not uncommon for companies to use other ITW Shippers products such as void fillers and corrugated panels in combination with our heavy weight air bags to achieve maximum load securement. |
